The Department has an efficient team of 29 highly qualified and trained faculty out which 4 possess a Doctorate Degree in English, while 15 are pursuing Ph.D. Dr . Priya Sharon Thomas is the Head of the Department. All the faculty are motivated to bring out the best in the students. The Department started BA English Literature in 2010 ,In 2015 MA English Literature was started and in 2017 the research programme Ph. D was started . Several programmes are conducted for the benefit of the students which promote creativity and innovation. Special care and coaching is given to rural students who opt for this course in the form of bridge courses , remedial courses and an introduction to basic grammar, and the LSRW skills. Special lectures are organised on subject related topics, and on social themes, awareness programmes for the benefit of the students’ all round development.
The Department has signed MOUs with the industry to help in better placements. The curriculum is enhanced at regular intervals, and many Value Added Courses, Online Courses have been introduced to enrich the students’ learning experience. The department makes it a point to inculcate values in the minds of the students through the extension work that the students have to do. Practical training is given to the students through the internship at schools which is for a period of 10 days. Regular workshops on Drama are organised, This gives the students a chance to participate in Role play. The students lose their stage fear and are ready to face any challenges. The department is constant in its encouragement to the students in all their endeavours.

The English Literature curriculum is frequently updated keeping in mind the changes and demands in the global scenario. Apart from academics regular workshops on Drama and poetry have been organised for the benefit of the students as it improves confidence by role-play and enables them to face any interviews and overcome stage fear regularly. National & International conferences on the latest research topics are organised, coaching for the English section of the competitive exams is given in the paper English for Academic Purpose. IELTS coaching is given free of cost, to enhance the language learning. Mastering English Sentence Structure by Udemy and Communicative English are offered free of cost to all second-year students. To improve the speaking skills of the student, Friday Forum is being organised.

I am so proud to be an alumnus of this esteemed institution that prepares students not only to excel in academics but also to bethe responsible citizens. I have completed my BA English Language and Literature in 2015. I am grateful to Dr. Priya Sharon Thomas, Head of the Department for her support and guidance. The staff are truly exceptional, highly qualified and has several years of teaching experience. The department offers several platforms to showcase myriad talents hidden within students. Several conferences, seminars, workshops, LIT fests are organized every year. It fosters effective communication skills, critical thinking, inter-disciplinary research etc. The curriculum prepares students to clear NET, SLET, CET, IELTS, TOEFL etc..
